This is a per diem, day shift position.
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant II to support ophthalmology and optometry providers ensuring quality patient care and optimal customer service. The Ophthalmic Assistant will obtain initial patient assessments by recording pertinent medical history, visual acuity and performing specialized technical procedures. They will also perform clerical duties to maintain effective office operations and patient services; manage the usage, disposal, and replenishment of supplies necessary for an efficiently run clinic.
In this position you will:
Assist providers with direct patient care by assisting patients to appropriate treatment areas, prepare patient areas for examination, help with patient exams and procedures, following universal precautions and sterile technique, and help to discharge patients.
Perform patient screening: Medical History Taking, Manage patient flow, Vital Signs-BP, Temperature, Pulse and Respiration, Scribe for Provider, Visual Acuity, Color Vision Testing (Ishihara plates and Farnsworth lantern), Extraocular Movements Testing (EOMs), Pupil Evaluation, Confrontational Fields, Amsler Grid Testing, Pachymetry, BAT Testing, Lensometry-Automatic and Manual, Instillation of Eye Medications, Patient Education-Preoperative, Postoperative teaching, Contact Lense Instruction, Auto Refraction & Auto Keretometry, Tonometry (Applanation and tonopen), Visual Fields Testing (including Humphrey and Goldman), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Assessment of Anterior Chamber, and Schirmer Testing.
Utilize computer including IDX, to schedule, patients and manage patient information.
Receive patients and ensure the completion of all necessary clerical work; obtain changes in patient information and inputs into the computer system.
Maintain provider and staff schedules to support clinic efficiency.
Ensure accurate encounter batching and completion of RF screen.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
One year experience in an eye care setting.
Current Washington State MA registration within 60 days of hire.
Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
Basic eye medication knowledge.
Basic contact lens knowledge-insertion/removal, care systems.
Ability to screen adult and pediatric patients.
Ability to perform autorefraction.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Current Washington State MA certification
IDX computer software knowledge
