DESCRIPTION

Spokane Community College seeks qualified candidates for an Adjunct (part-time) Instructor in I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training). I-BEST is designed to be team-taught by content and basic skills faculty and supports adult learners by teaching college readiness skills, consult with students, as needed, collaborate with other instructors in developing contextualized curricula.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide basic skills instruction to adults in the identified contextualized subject area
Integrate ABE learning standards as appropriate
Identify learning strategies for students
Plan in conjunction with co-teacher classroom management, attendance policies, and homework and test policies
Develop syllabus for class
Liaison between divisions/departments
Connect students with appropriate resources; provide advocacy when appropriate
Follow up with students upon absent/attendance issues
Follow up with students experiencing low academic success and/or issues related to academic success
Model student learning
Proctor CASAS and/or other required assessments.
Complete required ABE paperwork to include: enrollments, WABERS, Attendance
Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Minimum Qualifications):
Ability to use technology for instruction purposes.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (Desirable Qualifications):
Teaching experience from an accredited institution.
Ability to assess adult student learning
Master's degree from an accredited institution
Knowledge of a learning management systems such as CANVAS

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:

Adjunct Faculty: Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
