We are currently seeking a Director of Member & Public Relations to develop a corporate public relation’s plan that positions Cobb EMC as a community, business and industry leader.


Major Areas of Responsibilities:
NOTE: The following are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties may change or be temporarily altered based on the current business needs of the Company. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the reporting authority.

Safety & Corporate Standards:

Public Relations

Develop and implement strategic public relation programs to achieve an increase in brand awareness.
Ability to integrate PR programs to support marketing and communication goals and programs.
Develop a corporate PR plan that positions Cobb EMC as a community and business leader.
Coordinate all public relations activities.
Develop crisis communication plans and respond as necessary.
Monitor, analyze and communicate PR results.
Design and implement social media strategies for each specific channel (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
Coordinate all social media activity, and work with Corporate Communications and Marketing when necessary.
Coordinate social media responses with customer service as necessary.
Create videos and overall video strategy for use in internal corporate communications, social media and community events.
Maintain an understanding of industry trends and make recommendations regarding PR and communication strategies.
Design and execute public relations campaigns.

Media Relations

Establish and maintain productive working relationships with members of the local, regional, trade and other media that cover Cobb EMC.
Assume lead responsibility for developing and writing all press releases and other materials that are disseminated to the media.
Advise Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications and other senior managers on strategy and tactics for interacting with media, ensuring that company messages are accurately and fairly represented in key media.
Serve as Cobb EMC’s first point of contact with media and as spokesman on most matters; as appropriate, facilitate media interviews with senior executives.
Develop a system of tracking media and evaluating media coverage, and report regularly on same to Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications and senior management.

Community Relations

Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with business and community leaders.
Guide company strategy for engaging with organizations and determining where and how to invest company resources, including executive time, volunteer support and financial support.
Ability to serve as the company’s representative to a variety of important business, civic and community organizations, which could include sponsor remarks to be determined by the Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Communications.

Event Planning

Coordinate and manage Cobb EMC’s Annual Meeting.
Coordinate and manage employee events to create a positive morale within the company.
Work with other employees and departments to encourage participation and to increase the creativity of the events.
Track and report the success of the event by conducting surveys.

Budget and Planning

Create and maintain a budget.
Report budget variances every quarter.
Plan appropriate strategic goals annually that align with the corporation and division.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, journalism, communications or related field.
Minimum 7 (seven) years’ experience with demonstrable track record of effective public relations with corporate or public relations agency; proven ability to develop, sustain and leverage relationships across a broad range of constituencies.
Minimum 4 (four) years of proven track record in developing and maintaining media relations which include print, broadcast and online media.
Demonstrated experience in writing effectively for traditional print, broadcast, online and social media, as well as speech-writing and presentation development.
Proven ability and self-confidence to represent Cobb EMC with important constituencies, and, where appropriate or necessary, to facilitate engagement of senior executives.

Required Skills:
Superior writing skills a must, including ability to develop and write traditional press releases in media-friendly style; media advisories; social media briefs, speeches and important executive communications (letters, op-eds, etc.).

Superior oral communications skills, including the ability to represent the company in settings ranging from one-on-one encounters with the media to presentations to significant local and/or industry audiences.

Ability to quickly become knowledgeable about Cobb EMC organization and business operations.

Proficiency with all contemporary business tools, including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications, as well as web-based and social media tools and systems.

Proficiency in skills to support reporting and press releases.

Proficiency in using social media to promote public relations.

Proficiency in prioritizing and managing multiple and often competing tasks and responsibilities.

Ability to appropriately handle confidential information and demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making skills.

Valid Georgia driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in traditional journalism.
Knowledge of Cobb EMC’s business and service area a plus.
Previous utility industry experience.

Activity will range from sedentary to relatively active. Some work will be done in-office and sitting at personal computer, while other duties will require being out of the office interacting with external constituencies.

Working Conditions:
Work in general office environment; frequently attends meetings and community functions; occasionally takes photographs of corporate and community events.
Flexibility to work varying hours. Must be available to travel to cover events.

Working Relationships:
Two-way communication with immediate supervisor to receive approvals, direction, instruction and provide work-related information on assignments/projects; with internal subject matter experts in order to be able to understand and represent important business issues and operations to media and other external stakeholders.

Interact with the public to promote understanding of and goodwill for the corporation. Establish productive working relationships with local, regional, trade and other media to ensure that Cobb EMC’s positions and interests are represented in coverage of the company and the industry. Establish strong ties to important business, civic and community organizations that can be leveraged to the company’s benefit as necessary and appropriate.
