The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for an Office Services Specialist position in Division 5, located in Hampton, Virginia. This is a Non-Exempt; therefore, this position is subject to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. DUTIES: ? Maintains Leave and Payroll Records for Sworn and Non-sworn Employees. ? Provides Administrative Assistance and Support to the Division and Area Staff. ? Composes routine and confidential correspondence and reports in accordance with policy and procedures. ? Compiles data for monthly Safety Work Zone Report for overtime purposes; and completes Motor Carrier Covert Activity Report. ? Oversees preparation of outgoing mail and maintains automated files and records.
QUALIFICATIONS: ? Working knowledge of payroll processing and administrative procedures; clerical accounting and computational arithmetic; general office practices and procedures; basic filing principles associated with manual and automated systems; and grammar, punctuation, and usage. ? Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications; and operating standard office equipment such as copiers and fax machines. ? Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply administrative operational policies and procedures; perform mathematical computations; review timesheets for accuracy and completeness, and maintain associated leave and payroll records; collect and assemble information and prepare correspondence, reports and memoranda; prioritize and organize work, making independent decisions; work independently and as a member of a team; and communicate effectively orally and in writing in English. ? Graduation from high school or equivalent. ? Progressively responsible administrative experience. ? Must be able to serve as a Notary Public. ? An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating posssession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
